Over the weekend I was on an online baby board, and someone posted a poll asking people to share the meaning of their child's name. When we started thinking about names, we knew we wanted her middle name to be Elena to honor my sister. We both liked the name Madeline and just made the choice without even giving it much thought.
So I decided to Google it and found that Madeline means "strength giving." I was so stunned when I read that because this child has done that for my family in ways that can't be measured. We lost Elena on July 27, 2009, and in early September when I found out I was pregnant, we all quickly embraced it as a way to look forward and be happy instead of reflecting back on the loss we'd just suffered. Madeline has brought us all strength in so many ways. And as the one year anniversary of Elena's passing draws quickly closer, she reminds us each day of the true joy in life.
I always felt like her name was perfect before, but now I know that it was the name she was meant to have.
