This charming bed and breakfast is about 10 minutes from downtown Durango. When I initially emailed them about a specific room, asking if it was big enough to accommodate a pack and play, they offered me a bigger room at the smaller-room price. We ended up in the Summer Rose room because they said it was a big room that offered enough space to move around, and they were right! It's a great room located on the lower level of the carriage house, and you can park right outside, which is great when you have the amount of gear that we had!
The Inn is located on a beautiful creek and at night all you hear is the creek running and all you see is a sky full of stars. The owners are a husband and wife that moved to Durango from Arlington, Texas. He is a retired fireman and they knew they wanted to run a B&B in their "second" career. They are doing a great job! Apparently the place had previously been run as a yoga retreat and the owner was struggling to make it successful (probably because no one wants to sit out on the big open area outside in three feet of snow in the winter).
Here's the only shot from inside our room because it quickly became too messy to document. This cabinet was Madeline's favorite place to sit in the room.
Saturday night we had dinner at Steamworks Brewery. We had been there years ago when I did the Durango half marathon. While the beer was good, the food wasn't as good as we'd expected or hoped. But it was a fun night and we wandered around the quaint downtown area before and after dinner. One benefit, however, is that they let kids draw on the floors with chalk and people throw peanut shells on the floor, too. This proved to be a great thing since Madeline tossed most of her dinner down there, too.
Sunday we got up and enjoyed a yummy breakfast of quiche, sausage and blueberry cheesecake muffins and then made our way to Mesa Verde National Park. It's about a 25 minute drive from Durango to the park entrance, and then about another 25 minutes to the guest center. We didn't do a lot of research before we went over there, so we didn't realize that much of the park wasn't easily accessible when traveling with a baby. However, the park was so busy it wouldn't have mattered if we wanted to do the tours anyway because everything was sold out.
So instead of doing the ranger tours, we did a self-guided tour of the Spruce Tree House.
Sunday night we did something super touristy but super fun. We had dinner and enjoyed the show at the Bar D Chuckwagon. The food was pretty average, but the whole experience was fun (and we both got new hats, too). The music was really great, and I couldn't help but think how much my grandfather would have enjoyed it. It ended up being a little long of an evening for Madeline, but we had a great time and are really glad we went.
This is the drive up into the facility:

Hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day. We are really glad we got to spend this time together as a family.
