28-Week Ultrasound

As a high-risk patient, my doctor is keeping a much closer eye on me than at this point in my pregnancy with Madeline. One thing that means is more-frequent ultrasounds.

In the January ultrasound where they first try to determine gender, things were iffy at best. Then in February they were pretty sure we were having another girl. Yesterday, Charlotte left no question. The sonographer even said something like "that's pretty much the clearest shot I've seen in a long time."

Once we got that out of the way, she needed to take some basic measurements to assess where Charlotte is on the growth scale. They estimate her weight at about 3 1/2 pounds, and she's measuring 29 weeks, 6 days (even though I'm actually only 28 weeks, 2 days along). Measuring ahead is a great thing considering that I will not carry to full term due to my health history.

My blood pressure has been good so far, so if I stay off the meds, they'll schedule me for delivery some time around 39 weeks, which is May 28th (coincidentally that was my originally due date with Madeline). If I end up on meds, it'll be more like May 14th. Either way, there's pretty much no way I'll have a June baby. So that means our girls with both have May birthdays, and Brian and I will be the June birthdays.

Charlotte is currently breech, which means she's head up. If we were having a regular delivery, they'd watch to make sure she turned head down. But since I'll most likely have a c-section, they aren't overly concerned at this point.

Charlotte likes to kick. A lot. And hard. I sat in a meeting earlier this week and could watch my belly ripple with her movement.

During the ultrasound she was actually holding the cord between her thumb and forefinger and playing with it. Guess she figured it was the only thing around to really mess with.

The sonographer said everything looks great and that she's progressing very well. She's in the 78 percentile for size at this point, so something tells me that she's not going to be a little petite princess like Madeline. Just hoping again she doesn't get mommy's big ol' feet.
