Maui Vacation - the first few days

I have purposefully been pretty quiet with the trip on social media, making the conscious decision to live in the moment and enjoy it rather than experience it with my nose buried in my phone. I've posted a few pics along the way but I thought I'd do a summary of the first few days while the girls napped.

We are staying at the Westin Maui, and we've been really happy with the choice. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is great and the beach is amazing. It's all very easy to get to and from our room to everything, and other than the fact that the room is a tad bit small when traveling with two kids, it's been the perfect place for our extended vacation. I say extended because neither Brian or I have stayed in a hotel for nine nights before.

We got here on the 30th and wandered around the hotel and got our bearings. The next day we had a pool and beach day and got settled in. Then it was time to hit the road and explore. On New Year's Day we went north and did a big loop around the northern end of the island. Charlotte was asleep in the car for a lot of the start of this part so she isn't in the pics.

The hotel grounds are absolutely beautiful and meticulously maintained. There are koi in the ponds and flamingos as well, which the girls of course love.

When I started thinking about the trip, I thought about our how to take pics in the sand and water. I hate those little disposable cameras and instead picked up this waterproof camera from Amazon. It was on sale for $125 and it has already been well worth it to be able to take it in the pool or in the sand and not worry.

If this trip ended today, I'd be a happy mommy. But thankfully we still have six days left! We're going whale watching on Saturday, and Monday we'll get to meet up with my cousin Tommy.
